The Challenge
Off-road shock housings must withstand extreme heat, vibration, and impact while staying lightweight. Traditional multi-part designs add weight, complexity, and failure points. Fundamental Motorsports needed a way to consolidate parts, improve durability, and maintain performance.
The Solution
Using the NXG XII 600, Fundamental Motorsports produced a single-piece shock housing. Nikon SLM Solutions’ multi-laser platform enabled integrated cooling, optimized internal flow paths, and minimal post-processing through metal AM–driven part consolidation.
The Impact
The new design improved performance and reliability in demanding race conditions, highlighting how large-format metal AM enhances functionality, manufacturability, and speed of iteration for motorsport applications.
