SLM Solutions, integrated solutions provider and metal additive manufacturing equipment partner, has been awarded the Training Award by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) of Lübeck. With its comprehensive training and apprentice program, SLM Solutions aims to ensure its long-term success by educating experienced specialists. The IHK of Lübeck has now honored this commitment at an official awards ceremony.

As the utilization of SLM^® technology for series production continues to grow, the entire additive manufacturing industry is expected to face an increasing shortage of skilled workers with adequate training. Looking to the future, SLM Solutions actively trains young employees across many disciplines to counteract this skills gap. Trainees gain valuable insights not only for a future at a large industrial company, but also the learn first-hand about the required technical know-how and experience needed for a career in metal additive manufacturing. This is not only an important step to a successful future for every single trainee, but offers SLM Solutions the ability to train future experts for its own needs long-term growth.

Criteria to receive the IHK Training Award, which cannot be applied for, includes not only a company providing high-level training over a long period of time, but also a program with apprentices that achieve top results. Ideally, trainees are given projects for them to independently manage. According to the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Lübeck Managing Director Lars Schöning, “SLM Solutions allows young people to participate in a state-of-the-art process and gives them important impulses for their professional careers.” The award is presented to a maximum of ten exemplary training companies per year.

Representatives of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Lübeck, trainees and trainers as well as CFO of SLM Solutions, Uwe Bögershausen, met at the headquarters of SLM Solutions in Germany for the award ceremony. “As an innovation company with customers all over the world, we are enthusiastic about young employees interested in the technology who want to make a difference,” stated Bögershausen. “We are very pleased about the 2019 IHK Training Award – a motivation for all trainers and apprentices in our company.” SLM Solutions is currently training mechatronics engineers, industrial clerks, technical product designers, warehouse specialists, machine and plant operators and, in cooperation with the Nordakademie, industrial engineers in a dual study program.
