Lübeck, Germany — April 15, 2025 – LaserTool, Scandinavia’s leading company in laser hardening, has announced its strategic expansion into additive manufacturing (AM) by investing in an SLM®500 metal additive manufacturing system from Nikon SLM Solutions. This move positions LaserTool to address the growing demand for high-strength steel components in the Nordic region.
With over 20 years of expertise in laser hardening, LaserTool will leverage its deep industry knowledge and advanced manufacturing capabilities to produce large-scale structural components, spare parts, tooling, and prototypes using high-strength steel powders from SSAB. The investment includes expanding the company’s production facilities by an additional 400 square meters to accommodate the new equipment and enhance operational capacity.
“With this investment, LaserTool will meet growing market demand and strengthen our competitive edge as a comprehensive manufacturing partner,” said Martin Nilsson, CEO of LaserTool. “Additive manufacturing opens new opportunities, enabling us to create components that were previously impossible with conventional methods, significantly reducing material waste, and improving our environmental footprint.”
The SLM®500 system is designed specifically for high productivity in complex prototyping and series production, offering precision, reliability, and efficiency. All additive manufacturing at LaserTool will utilize green electricity, further minimizing the environmental impact and promoting sustainable production practices. Installation and commissioning of the system are scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.
Sam O’Leary, CEO of Nikon SLM Solutions, added: “We’re proud to support LaserTool’s ambitious expansion into additive manufacturing. Our collaboration marks an important milestone in increasing the adoption of additive manufacturing technologies in the Nordic region. LaserTool’s expertise combined with our advanced SLM®500 system will drive innovation and set new standards for manufacturing high-strength steel components.”
